SSC Homecoming Royalty is crowned

South Sioux City High School kicked off homecoming activities this week with the crowning of the 2024 Homecoming King and Queen. Selected were Queen Khyah Vaughn, daughter of Rani Vaughn; and King Melusi Ngelka, son of Mwamba Ngeleka and Sindie Ngeleka.

Queen Khyah is involved in Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Academy of Cardinal Leaders, Student Council, track and field, cheer, National Honor Society, unified bowling and is on the honor roll. She plans to attend the University of Nebraska-Omaha after graduating and major in psychology. Honors English is her favorite class and her favorite teacher is Mr. Snyder. Khyah’s favorite high school memory is breaking the 400-meter relay school record for track with her teammates.

King Melusi is involved in cross country, track, Academy of Cardinal Leaders, Math Honor Society, Mock Trial and is the president of the Student Council and the National Honor Society. He would like to attend either the University of Nebraska-Lincoln or Howard University and major in physics or education. Melusi’s favorite class is Calculus with Mrs. Jarman and AP Language with Mrs. Simons. His favorite teachers are Mrs. Liston, Mike Wright and Mrs. Swanson, who has managed to put up with him for four years. Melusi’s favorite high school memories are going to state cross country his sophomore year and the “WAP” being played at my freshman year homecoming.
